Research on family resources and primary schooling in Tanzania awarded Doctorate
The first EdQual-sponsored PhD student has officially graduated after successfully completing their studies. Dr Aneth Komba's research looked at the link between family resources and children's engagement with primary school in Tanzania. She graduated from the University of Bath on July 6 2010 and will be returning to her work as a lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam.
Dr Komba's thesis was supervised by Mr Mike Fertig and Dr Yolande Muschamp and was linked to EdQual's Leadership and Management of Change project. Her research found that families' financial, human, social and cultural capital are critical in determining their children's engagement with school, though not universally so. More information is available in her thesis abstract (43.3 kB).
Aneth is also working with EdQual's Leadership and Management project and since returning to Dar es Salaam has been contributing to data analysis and report-writing.
